Sitting done November 29, 2004

Lindsay is a young Oregonian.  I had originally thought she was local, but as it turns out, she lives about 100 miles away.  Still, she was quite enthusiastic about posing for me, and when she proposed a Sitting date: , I took it.

The date Lindsay proposed was barely a week after my first sitting with Kira.  Normally, I like to complete the processing of one sitting before undertaking the next, but when opportunity presents itself, I like to be flexible.  I'm also struck by the similarities between Lindsay & Kira -- both are about 20 years old, both had spent some time down in Los Angeles doing more adult type modeling, and both didn't have good experiences with that.  Kira's sitting was fresh on my mind.  If you recall, Kira didn't have a good day when she posed for me, and I started thinking about the smile on the face of Mona Lisa.  The theory I like the best is that Mona Lisa was smiling at Leonardo DaVinci, because he was charming, amusing, singing, dancing, flirting, and so forth.

So, I strove to do the same with Lindsay.  I was determined that we would have a fun time, and I took responsibility to set the proper fun tone.

And it worked.  Worked quite well, in fact.  We had great fun, laughing & flirting & just enjoying our experience.

I should mention that this is exactly how Lindsay appeared at my front door.  Here it was, after Thanksgiving, and she shows up wearing hardly anything.  I mean, it was very chilly outside.  Ah, youth!  Youth's furnace burns hot.

A recurring theme for this sitting -- Lindsay's freakishly large hands!  See, her hand is bigger than her head!  Ha!

So, we joked, we flirted, we talked.  As a result, we produced some photographs with great interpersonal contact.

Some obvious observations:

  • Lindsay has a tall, lean, lovely figure!

  • She has the most terrific skin I've ever seen.

  • She arrived with a fantastic tan.  She had done some modeling in Hawaii for a sun tan lotion company, and was left with a great, even tan.

I use this "Getting Started" setup often -- I like it a lot.  One of the things I like about this setup is that you get the sense of what the model is like in "real life".  A couple of notes:
  • I was a little surprised that Lindsay was wearing a bra.  Most experienced models go without before a sitting, because it takes a little while for the marks to leave the skin.
  • It is the prerogative of each generation to choose styles that annoy previous generations.  While I do tend to hate the current fascination with tattoos and body piercings, I've got to admit that I love these low slung pants.  I don't know how Lindsay's pants stay up -- they can't be any lower, can they?

I'm having a great time watching Lindsay getting undressed.  I have her disrobe, put her clothes back on, and then get undressed again.

I was wrong -- those pants can get lower!

So, we are working the "Mona Lisa Smile" technique:  we are joking around, flirting, jumping around, and so forth.  Here I am, practically on the floor beneath her, and we are having much fun.  She blows me a kiss -- I think I'll treasure this picture.

Clearly, we are having a good time.  Can you tell?

I do like the low angle of the above images.  That's one of the big advantages of the digital camera -- with it's pivoting & swinging LCD screen, you can get unusual & interesting angles easily.

But there's something to be said about the more conventional perspectives.  Here you can see Lindsay's terrific figure.

While there are significant advantages to the digital camera (interesting angles & instant gratification chief among these), I still prefer the film camera.  The image quality is still vastly superior.  See?

I've got to admit that I like the open, honest smile in the digital image, but from a technical quality perspective, I think the film image is sharper with better tonality.

Take a quick look at the film image above.  That's one of Lindsay's natural gestures -- hands clasped, elbows in, hands under her chin.  She did that earlier, in the picture made from a low angle (ls01d0018sepsat.jpg).  You'll see that again.  I had asked her if she was cold, but she said no, that's just what she does.

Film image with Lindsay's dazzling smile.

(You may note that Lindsay's bra did leave marks on her skin.  That's why many models arrive wearing no underwear.  No worries, though.  I don't mind much, and Lindsay's youthful skin soon loses those marks.)

I think we are off to a rousing start!  I've mentioned before that I really don't know what a model looks like until I photograph her myself.  While I've seen images of Lindsay before, she was much, much better looking than I expected.  She is tall, with fantastic, tanned skin, and with a terrific figure.  More importantly, the "Mona Lisa Smile" methodology of sitting management is working well.  We are having great fun.  Her smiles are real.

This sitting continues with Comfy Jammies.
