Sitting done November 29, 2004

I finally get Lindsay naked, and we move on the some classic figure studies.

I've had this pedestal for a while, but I've only recently started using it for photography.  I think I first started using it with Jennifer's visit last summer.  It looks nice, and staying on such a small platform keeps the models on their toes, so to speak.

I should mention that it is important to me that models feel comfortable during a sitting, and by comfortable, I mean that she feels respected & safe.  I am less concerned about physical comfort.  If you get a model lounging in a comfy sofa, she may fall asleep, and that's not always good for photography.

Let's do another "digital" versus "film" comparison.

Digital

Film

Maybe I just have better control over film, but here the difference in sharpness & tonality is very apparent.  Still, the digital camera is very useful:
  • I can preview the lighting and make minor adjustments.
  • I can show the images to the model, and that keeps them focused & engaged.
  • It saves all that time-consuming & expensive darkroom work.
  • There are just some places & angles that you can't get with the film camera (see the next page).

I've got to admit that I still make 100 film exposures during a sitting, but nowadays I'm making more digital exposures than film exposures.  Still, I make sure that the important images are made with film when possible.

There's something about this picture that makes Lindsay's long legs look especially yummy.

We move on to horizontals.  I should get models horizontal more often.

There's that gesture again -- hands clasped under the chin, elbows in.  That's our Lindsay.

Lindsay tells me that this pose is known in modeling circles as "The Mermaid Pose".  I can see why.  It's pretty cool that poses have names.  And Lindsay looks great as a mermaid.

I must be liking these images -- I'm showing you a lot of them.  At this point, I've already exposed my 10 rolls of film, and we still had quite some time left.  This was planned.  I invite Lindsay to the shower, planning to get her wet.
