We didn't work with the window light very long.  I like it when models move, but to move, the model needs a bit of space.  Today, with the window, there wasn't a lot of space in which the model can work.  So, we shut it down, and I set up the studio strobes.

While I am setting the lights up, I ask Stephy to get dressed, so that we can do the "Getting Started" concept again.

Stephy has a lovely smile.

I like this soft lighting.

I really like this lighting.  The main light is the big honkin' 6 foot softbox, positioned to the left of the camera.  There is a hair light that's above, behind, and to the right of the camera -- it's a small soft box.  Finally, there's a flash head with a grid that's behind Stephy, pointed at the backdrop (to give it a subtle glow).  (You can see the light stand behind the chair at the bottom of the image).

(I wish I had an easy-to-use tool for creating lighting diagrams; I'm too lazy to use the ones I know about).

In retrospect, however, I should have made a minor adjustment, raising the main soft box a bit higher, to lessen the shadows on Stephy's forehead.

I like this picture -- the light matches the casualness of the pose.

Stephy is taking her own sweet time removing her clothing.

It's funny -- every model handles this "Getting Started" setup differently.  Some put a lot of thought into the clothing they wear for this setup; others just rhrow on anything.  Some get rid of their clothes in seconds; others take their own sweet time; and others want me to tell them when to move on to the next article of clothing.

Don't get me wrong -- Stephy is not shy or inhibited.  She just likes taking her time.

I look at this picture, and I think...

... Well, I think what lovely eyes & breasts Stephy has, but I also think...

... that I'm getting better at figuring out exposure.  I should say that when I work with the studio strobes, I set the camera exposure manually, using the histogram.  Look at this image:  Stephy's skin is creamy, the dark areas are very dark but not black, there is enough tonal separation between her hair and the background.

Stephy is both cute & sexy at the same time.

Sometimes, when I'm looking for inspiration, I sometimes just try to do the opposite of what I usually do.  I tend to want images of models who are animated.  Today, for some reason, I want to do the opposite -- I want to work with Stephy to create peaceful, meditative images.  See how we did.
