I know quite a few
professional singers, some of whom had monster hits decades ago, and
when they come through town, we usually get together & hang out
for a while before their concerts. I'm struck by them performing
the same songs for decades & decades, going on stage & singing
all those "oldies". It is a challenge for them to
keep the songs "fresh", but sometimes they fall back or get
tired, and they can easily fall into auto-pilot (e.g. going through
the motions).
Sometimes something
similar happens when you work with experienced & professional
models: they fall back on those looks & poses that brought
them past successes.
Here, Savannah
looks especially seductive. I don't mind that, but it's a little too
interpersonal & too (falsely) intimate for my tastes. So, I ask Savannah
to move around & concentrate on some more "fine art"
posing.

|
That's
more like it. It is to
Savannah's credit that she can
easily & quickly switch
gears like that. Not all
models can move easily from
"glamour" to
"fine art" to
"erotic" to
whatever, but Savannah manages
it in a blink of an eye.
She is very versatile.
I
do like the texture of that chenille
throw against her skin.
I'm also a fan of the
"legs apart" pose --
some closed leg poses are a
little too forced / chaste to
my taste, and seeing a relaxed
pose is a good break from the
expected.
|
I take the chair away
from her & ask her to stand, working with that throw.
Here's she's
totally covered. Isn't that sexy?
|
|
|
I
like the feel of this image,
especially the light on
Savannah's face & hair.
But I think I'd prefer that
her right leg (the one closer
to the light) is the one
that's flexed, and her left
leg is the one that's more
straight. We try that...
|
A minor change to the
pose, and we have another winner. Love that soft light on
womanly curves!
|
|
|
I
like it when a model's hands
contribute to the pose &
the impact of the image, but
I've got to admit that I have
mixed feelings about model's
hands on her breast. In
part, I
guess I'm jealous.
Seriously,
though -- when a model touches
herself, it often contributes
a terrific sensual feel to the
image. Mark this as a
favorite.

Here's a cropped image
-- the full frame image is something like this:
I didn't like the
light on Savannah's face -- with her face tilting away from the main
light, I just didn't like the resulting shadows. So, I
cropped. What do you think?
Just goes to show
you -- sometime light that is great for the figure is not so good for
the face.

|
|
We
go down to the floor.
Sometimes all you need to do
is make a minor change to
energize the sitting &
keep it moving along.
|
|
I
think using a wide angle lens to
create some figure distortion is
great fun, and I suspect that I'll
find an excuse to do something
like this often. To get the
maximum distortion, you have to
use a very wide angle lens &
move in close to your
subject. Fortunately, wide
angle lenses often have terrific
depth of field. |
|
Savannah
was a little baffled when I called
this a "mermaid"
pose. Then I showed it to
her. |
|
It
is never a mistake to ask a model
to stretch & twist, however
not every model can pull it off
with natural grace. Savannah does -- she
looks terrific. |
|
Some
more fun with wide angle
distortion. |
Savannah is an energetic poser -- she's up & down, she rolls
around. It is a pleasure working with a model who moves around a
lot.
Although you can't see any naughty bits here, I like this
image. It's so informal, and it's awkward & graceful all at
the same time. (Don't discount the wide angle distortion fun,
either).
