Sitting done February 6, 2005

I
don't use the big honkin' soft box
enough -- it's slightly damaged &
prone to fall apart a little bit, plus
it is difficult to wrestle downstairs,
but I should use it more -- it
produces wonderful light. When Jessica
wanted to photograph Leona, she
wanted something that looked like
window light, which she used in a lot
of her own photography, and to get
that kind of light, we used the big
honkin' soft box. I liked what
she did -- thanks, Jessica for
reminding me how nice that soft box
is.
We
were running out of time, so Kira
& I concluded the sitting using
variations with the big soft
box.

During
Kira's first sitting, her hair
fell over her breasts in quite a
few images -- it's just where it
goes naturally, and I like the
effect. I also like the
warmth of Kira's smooth, clear
skin & the muscle definition
in her torso.
I
especially like her kissable
lips. (You were looking at
her lips, weren't you?) |
|
A
little variation from the
image above.
I
should note that Kira was
meeting a friend for a late
lunch after this sitting, and
she had no way to get in touch
with her friend. We were
running out of time, and I
hate to make a model late for
her next appointment, so we
strive to get a few more
images made. |

Sure,
Kira looks terrific, but something
that is also important is that she
moves well. She definitely
knows how to pose in a way that
presents her body in an attractive
way. She has an innate inner
grace. |

Here's
a rare single-light-source
image for me, with the light
coming from the big soft box
positions beyond
Kira.
I
almost like this -- it needs a
bit of fine tuning somehow,
but I'm not sure how. I
was looking for images like the
one Jessica made with Leona,
and despite being there &
helping Jessica set that up, I
didn't quite reproduce
it. (The biggest
difference here is that I used
the textured background, as
opposed to the black
background Jessica used). |

Here's
a token color image from this
setup. |

I
don't photograph model's backs
enough.
You
know, I use the same backdrop
over & over -- this is the
only backdrop I've used for
this entire sitting.
Between sittings, I cram it
into a too-small stuff sack,
and it comes out
wrinkled. It is amazing
to me how versatile this
backdrop is:
 |
if
the model stands away from
it a bit, it can be quite
dark, |
 |
if
it is well lit, the paint
patterns are visible, |
 |
if
it is side lit, like here,
all you can see is the
texture of the wrinkles. |

This
time (as compared with Kira's
first sitting), Kira showed up
rested, less stressed, and in a better
mood, and we had a terrifically fun
time. At the risk of repeating
myself, Kira is one of the most
beautiful models I've had the pleasure
to photograph -- she has exactly the
kind of figure I like to work
with: slim, lithe,
graceful. Further, she is all
natural with beautiful skin. As
a bonus, I really enjoy the time we
spend together.
This
was a short sitting -- we got a little
late start & Kira had an
appointment that we didn't want her to
miss. But I can see that there
are plenty of ideas that we could work
together on. I am definitely
looking forward to working with her
again.
